The Desert Winds Freedom Band was founded by Gary Moline in the Fall of 2001. The Band is a diverse group open to all gay and gay-friendly people who like to play concert band music. About Us...
Our organization provides meals to the poor and homeless Monday-Friday at 1911 E. Baristo. We have a food distribution for the working poor Saturday mornings only. We provide social services and other services to our clients on a daily basis. The Well in the Desert is pleased to announce a new program that it will launch on January 14, 2008. The program will be available to business people in Palm Springs and will help them with the problems of vagrancy, homelessness and panhandling. A new program, entitled "Well Assist" will serve those who have homeless people disturbing their place of business. By calling numbers provided by the Well, a business owner will be able to have a staff person from the Well attempt to convince the homeless person to leave their establishment permanently and seek assistance from the Well. The general public needs to understand that giving handouts to panhandlers is not giving a hand-up and is not the best way to help someone. As a team we hope to have the public assist by not offering handouts.
